Many of the common aches and pains people experience on a daily basis are due to poor posture. Did you just sit up straighter after reading that last sentence?—Sitting and standing with poor posture are a major source of what many people refer to as “normal headaches.” They are often called “normal headaches” because they occur so frequently in some people. When not using proper posture, the muscles at the base of the skull need to work overtime. Due to this, there are increased muscle spasms, dysfunction in the neck joints and overall increased pressure which all contribute to the headaches. Sitting and standing upright and not slouching will allow your skeleton to support most of your body weight and let your muscles relax. This will allow you to make your “normal headaches” not so normal anymore! For further postural recommendations contact Dr. Hartwig at 503-235-7130.
