The May flowers are upon us and  many people are busy tending to their gardens and yards.  In order to lessen the chances of injuring your back while working in your yard follow these three tips:

1.  Don’t pull large weeds/bushes- use a shovel or other tool to cut the roots.

2.  Use a wheelbarrow whenever possible to lift/carry heavy items such as dirt, gravel or stones.

3.  Avoid prolonged periods of being bent over or on you knees digging or planting.  Take frequent breaks!

Following your time in the garden be sure to stretch.  Stretching after any physical activity will decrease the likelihood and/or duration of soreness or injury that may arise.  Enjoy your time outdoors!
